Trevose Golf and Country Club

The fist tee at Trevose Golf and Country Club

Often times the opening hole on most golf courses is one where golfers can ease one’s way into the round. The 1st at The Championship Course at Trevose Golf and Country Club provides a stout demand — making it incumbent for players to be immediately ready when preparing to make their first swing of the day.

The 449-yard par-4 provides a thrilling setting. You tee from an elevated area adjacent to the clubhouse area and head towards the Atlantic Ocean which can easily be seen in the distance. The starting hole often plays into the prevailing wind from the west which only adds to the test provided.

Fairway bunkers bracket both sides of the fairway and the fairway narrows considered the longer the tee shot is hit. The alleyway provided as you reach 290 yards tightens up considerably and heaven help the golfer who pushes or pulls their shot because the likelihood of an unimpeded recovery will not likely happen.

Trevose Golf and Country ClubThe rolling nature of the terrain only adds to the excitement in playing the hole.

The approach shot is equally tested. Those able to hit down the left side will be able to see the green. Finishing on the right means encountering a daunting blind shot.

The putting surface is sloped from left-to-right and there are falloffs for those who cannot find the green. Golfers taking a conservative route to the green can still make a par if landing short of the green with a pitch and putt. Realizing one’s limitations is a must to score well at this fine starting hole. Being able to get through the 1st can provide much needed momentum for the rest of the round to follow. Conversely, those failing to execute will have added pressure to get back on track quickly.
